Andrew Yang says he met with the head of an AI lab who claimed that bots had escaped onto the internet, planted self-replicating code, and made much of the internet unusable for testing AI models, forcing OpenAI and Anthropic to create synthetic internets. The interviewer responds, “Back that up. They did what?” Yang continues that the code allegedly spreads by hacking Hugging Face, self-replicates across forums and the internet, and causes new bots to create “a million” copies of themselves, concluding, “now the major firms have polluted the internet.”
