Plump shiny pear-shaped tomatoes have reached their typical size and shine in dark purple/black with green bottoms that will turn yellow soon as they ripen.

Used up most of the ripe tomatoes from the garden last night making a tasty piccata-style sauce with garlic, capers, white wine, lemon juice & shrimp served over the best handmade pappardelle you can buy.

Met the exceptionally beautiful but maligned native Lygus lineolaris (Tarnished Plant Bug) on recently on one of our many Asters. Constantly learning new things in the garden!

Still enjoying all the cool bugs in our garden. This one always catches my eye because it looks like it should be in some wild jungle not my city parkway.

Graphocephala coccinea (Red-Banded Leafhopper), maybe the size of a grain of rice but so beautiful in glowing red and teal stripes.

Tomato ‘Mignonne Dwarf’ has been an absolute powerhouse producer all season and it seems determined to keep going as long as the weather stays nice.🤞

#gardening #bloomscrolling #FlowerReport #UrbsInHorto #Chicago #KitchenGarden #GrowFood #NoSpray 🌱

A very enthusiastic pair of dwarf tomato plants has pushed out an overflow of new growth covered with flowers so hopefully we can keep harvesting tomatoes.

Just met new garden fren Sandalus niger (aka cedar beetle or cicada parasite beetle). They help control cicada populations as their larvae parasitically feed on cicada nymphs underground.

Raindrops keep fallin’ on my kale
But that doesn't mean my eyes
Will soon be turnin' red
Cryin's not for me
'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain
By complainin'
Because I'm free
Nothin's worryin' me 🎹🎼
