@offthechart.showSo that's that for this week, except to say that you should hang around for another hour of 1989 bangers in Off The Chart Too! Join us again at 9pm next Tuesday when we'll be looking at 1984. G'bu! #OffTheChart #NoiseboxRadio
@offthechart.showLike the Freestyle Orchestra track we played way back at the start of the show, Black Box's "Ride On Time" used samples from Loleatta Holloway's "Love Sensation", but very little else, which may be why it spent six weeks at no.1 instead of peaking at 99. #OffTheChart #NoiseboxRadio
@offthechart.showUp a place to peak at no.2, "Pump Up The Jam" by Technotronic doesn't actually feature Felly, because although Congolese model Felly Kilingi appears on the record sleeve and in the video, the vocals are actually performed by Technotronic's regular vocalist Ya Kid K. #OffTheChart #NoiseboxRadio
@offthechart.showPeaking at no.3, "If Only I Could" was the biggest hit for US singer Sydney Youngblood who, disappointingly, is actually called Sydney Ford. #OffTheChart #NoiseboxRadio
@offthechart.showPeaking at no.4, "Drama!" was the first single from Erasure's fourth album "Wild!". The shouts of "Guilty!" in the chorus are by the Jesus & Mary Chain, who were recording in the studio next door. #OffTheChart #NoiseboxRadio
@offthechart.showDown 3 at no.5, "Right Here Waiting" was Richard Marx's breakthrough hit in the UK where it peaked at no.2. It reached no.1 in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and Poland. #OffTheChart #NoiseboxRadio
@offthechart.showNew at 18 on the Other Chart, "Last Night My Wife Hoovered My Head" was the debut single by Fat & Frantic, although they had released three cassettes on their own label: "Waxing A Hottie", "Aggressive Sunbathing" and "Live at the Wonky Donkey Bar & Grill". #OffTheChart #NoiseboxRadio
@offthechart.showNo.35 on the West German chart this week in 1989, "Sexy" by Marius Müller-Westernhagen; it was his second of 22 hits on the German chart, none of which ever reached the top ten. #ICEOTWF #OffTheChart #NoiseboxRadio
@offthechart.showPeaking at 16, "Oye Mi Canto (Hear My Voice)" was the second solo hit for Gloria Estefan, although she hadn't really gone solo, they'd just stopped crediting the Miami Sound Machine on her records. #OffTheChart #NoiseboxRadio
@offthechart.showNew at 27, "Can't Forget You" was the follow-up to Sonia's no.1 debut "You'll Never Stop Me Loving You" and the second of her eleven top 40 hits. #OffTheChart #NoiseboxRadio
@offthechart.showFormed in Leeds in 1985, "Kennedy" was the first of eighteen top 40 hits for The Wedding Present. New at 34, it climbed all the way to... no.33. #OffTheChart #NoiseboxRadio
@offthechart.showLook out, we're heading into the '90s with Candy Flip, no.42 on the Dance Chart with their debut single "Love Is Life" ahead of their top three hit in early 1990 with a cover of "Strawberry Fields Forever". #OffTheChart #NoiseboxRadio
@offthechart.showMeanwhile the Thompson Twins were still making their own records which absolutely nobody was buying. #OffTheChart #NoiseboxRadio
@offthechart.showNew at 52 this week, "I Want That Man" was only the third solo top 40 hit for Blondie's Debbie Harry, now calling herself "Deborah" for some reason. The song was written by Tom Bailey and Alannah Currie of the Thompson Twins and peaked at no.13. #OffTheChart #NoiseboxRadio
