29 Opaque Rubies

A labor of love that I've been working on for the past 4 years. An act of service to my community and undoubtedly the most difficult thing that I've ever done.

28 One Of A Kind

The #Florida humidity rots broken branches and sometimes I'll find one that looks interesting & gnarly. Its fascinating that, tho there r tens of billions of branches on the earth, the specific forces that created this 1 make it unique to all others.

A couple of very time consuming sessions with a black Sharpie pen and some good podcasts. Beauty is all around us. Oh, and I wanted to say "hundreds of billions" in the post but I ran out of characters.

Doing my very best to honor 4C.

I saved this one for the last day of the month and it was well worth the wait. She's a fitting and fantastic end to September 2026. Humming Stevie Wonder's Isn't She Lovely.

25 Shells And Rocks

These lovely sea shells and funky rocks have been sitting in a blue cup on my counter since my #beach excursion last July. My plan was to assemble the odd mixture of shapes and colors together but I never got around to it. So here they are in all of their glory. #NineThirty

The holes in the rock were created either by marine life or by salt water erosion. Amazing!

This probably wont make the #NineThirty final roster but I wanted to give it an honorable mention. It'll require a significant amount of additional #ink work and Ive only got 29 hours remaining in the month to get some other stuff done. Bugger.

#sketch #art #wip #neverEnoughHoursInTheDay

Don't laugh but I had a brief vision of this as some sort of simple game. Big boy on a mech scooter zooming around in circles trying to stop something bad from happening. Maybe it becomes a reality in an alternate universe.

22 Teenie Mountain Conflict

The #sketch somehow morphed into a promotional poster for a book...or a docu-series on Tubi...or something. @npr.org @ericm.cd Contact me ASAP for introspective discussion & a first glimpse at whatever this turns out to be!

21 Mountain Diorama

A fun sketch before I started yesterday's workday. I started to build up a 3D model in #Blender to support this but I had to stop. It'd be kinda cool to have little airplanes zooming around and shadow-casting clouds floating

The second sketch from my afternoon at Unity Park. Black ink with a lite digital wash. The first one was a meh but this one will look cool on the wall.

Good progress on this one before the sun's fully up. Hopefully I can have it ready to roll by this afternoon.

A quick foundation sketch in orange marker and then the pencil work begins. The plan is to have a strong drawing of a woman of color and then I want to overlay circuit wires on top of her skin. We'll see what direction this goes in. Things don't always go according to plan.

18 Potted Coleus

I'll be honest, working on this one was just an excuse to stay up to catch Jalen Brunson on #SNL.

Uhh.... so is Katseye kinda like the new Danity Kane? But, like.... minus all of the sexual harassment from their management, right? Right???

17 Grid One

I've got several sketches of plants from a session this morning. Here's one on top of some squares. Fall has finally come to #Orlando and its a pleasure to sit outside and do #art things.

#NineThirty

No special commentary for this one. Sometimes I just want sketches that will look good on my wall or on a bookshelf. I probably should have blended more orange into the leaves. Maybe. White to yellow to red-orange. Maybe.

16 Desirae

#art #illustration #NineThirty #gloriousLegs

I love the pose and her colors but I fumbled on the hair. I could easily burn another 4 hours trying to get the kinky texture right but unfortunately I need to move on. Lo siento, madam.

14 Pagan Tree

No sexy stories here. This one was done while sitting in a doctor's office, listening to my grandmother fib to her doctor. Is it a lie if she genuinely believes what shes saying? That question crossed my mind as I piled on the white lines to build up this tree

#art #rings #NineThirty

The original drawing was white lines on an all black background but I decided to make it the center piece surrounded by glyphs. The 140/80 isn't a time stamp or a signature. While I was doodling, the doctor called out my grandmother's blood pressure and I jotted it down so that I wouldn't forget it. The 140 was actually pretty good for the elderly hellraiser because she normally runs in the 160s!

13 Wednesday Doodle

My work day ended early so I broke out the highlighter and #ink pen. This was supposed to be some sort of VTOL mini-gunship but it looks to cute for warfare. So instead, its now a multi-purpose, 4-seater craft ready for service.

#art #illustration #NineThirty #nasa #whatIsThis

Do you see the engine booster thingees at the front and the rear of the craft? That was supposed to be a rotatable turbine that would allow for vertical takeoffs and landings. Unfortunately, the pivot point is too far back so it probably won't work the way I had originally intended. The pilot and occupants enter the craft via the side door over the payload arm. Not too shabby for a freehand sketch on a Wednesday afternoon. Cheers.

12 High House of Cognitive Dissonance

I see this place everyday and its always packed. Somehow, the focus of its parishioners shifted away from striving to become better servants. They now just seek a safe space to reaffirm their worst tribal instincts. Welcome to the high house

#NineThirty #art

I woke up early yesterday morning to sketch this. Good times. I could hear the voices of the nationalist members in my head as I drew. "I'll do and say whatever I want. Accept me as I am. I dont need to change. They're the problem." It's clear that we're a long way from where we could or should be and that's a shame.

11 Moments Before

Civil servants start their day

Pencil on paper for the 25th anniversary.

#art #illustration #newYork #fdny #neverForget #NineThirty

This year was the 25th anniversary of 9/11. It's hard to believe that its been that long! I'll never forget being on campus that Tuesday morning at UCF. This year, as with every year, I'm captivated by the 9/11 coverage. Specifically, the footage and stories of people's actions that morning. There was video of a fireman standing around, getting ready to start his day. He then hears something odd and looks up just in time to see the first plane striking the tower off in the distance. It's chilling. Thank goodness for the brave souls who run towards the danger while others are running away.

10 Cloudscape

A friend made the mistake of showing me a picture of some clouds yesterday. I had other ideas for the tenth work in this #NineThirty series but, since I'm such a fan of cloudscapes, this idea floated to the top of the list.

#art #clouds #cloudWatchers407 #lookUp

Did I mention that I love cloud watching? I still dream of perfecting a process to render a thick, fluffy stack of clouds in 3D. Maybe I'll have time for it later on in the series. I won't... but it's fun to dream. Look up.

09 For Jessica

Last Wednesday, fate crossed my path with that of a woman who had fallen on some very hard times. I helped out where I could and then wished her the best of luck in whatever was next for her.

An old faded marker, blue ink, and orange colored pencil.

#art #illustration #NineThirty

I'm not sure where Ms Jessica will end up but I hope that she lands on her feet. It's been a very rough year for her. She seemed to be a woman of faith but I sincerely hope that she listens a little less to the divine voice in her head and a little more to the practical advice of people who genuinely want to see her in a better position.
