A molting American Goldfinch with a drab greenish head and back, black wings and tail, and still some yellow on its chest, was pulling seeds from green seed pods on green Evening Primrose plants. There were green leaves and a few pale red leaves and stems around the bird. Seen next to the Dike Trail at Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Concord, Massachusetts.

There's a small Yellow-rumped Warbler (Myrtle Warbler) in the center of the photos with a white throat and a bright yellow patch on its rump, crown, and sides of the breast. The bird was one of several warblers that were flying around in the trees. This bird was perched on a dark brown branch of a white oak tree with more brown branches, green, orange and red leaves, and a blue sky in the background. Seen on a forest trail next to a small pond in Concord, Massachusetts.

The Concord River, which runs along the edge of Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Concord, Massachusetts. The river was lined with tall trees with green and a few red leaves under a bright blue sky. To the left, there was brown mud on the bank sprinkled with fallen brown leaves. A Great Blue Heron with gray and dark blue body feathers and a long yellow beak, standing on a small tussock in the marsh at Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge in Maynard, Massachusetts. I almost didn't see the heron as I was walking down the nearby trail as it was standing still. The marsh was lit up by the morning sun and featured yellow, green, red and brown grasses and aquatic plants, and water with areas of yellow-green pollen and reflections of the plants.

The Grist Mill Pond in Sudbury, Massachusetts is part of the Wayside Inn Historic District and is located close to the Grist Mill. The pond had blue water with reflections of trees with green leaves along the shoreline, yellow-green pollen and algae, tall green reeds in the foreground, and a clear blue sky above.

The Great Blue Heron is a very large and tall bird with a long neck. This bird was grayish-blue overall with white around the face, neck and chest, including some long white and gray plumes, a long yellow bill, long gray legs, a blue-black crown, and long, dark head plumes. I was walking on a trail and saw the heron on the other side of the river through a gap in the trees. The heron was standing on a pile of brown branches with many smaller, winding branches, and green leaves across the background. Seen at Great Meadows NWR in Concord, Massachusetts.

A peaceful scene looking across the Concord River from the riverbank. The water was very still and full of reflections of tall brown trees with green leaves, broken brown trees and branches, and green plants on the opposite shore, as well as reflections of the blue sky with puffy white clouds. There was a hawk on top of the brown snag that took off as soon as it saw me and flew into the trees. Oh well. At least I captured the pretty scene! Seen at Great Meadows NWR in Concord, Massachusetts.
