Researchers discovered that the bilayer structure of La₃Ni₂O₇ achieves 80K superconductivity, while the 1313 monolayer-trilayer phase only reaches 3.6K, demonstrating that interlayer coupling is critical for high-temperature superconductivity in nickelates.
