Another unusual late-blooming #NativePlant— annual Euphorbia cyathophora (Fire-on-the-Mountain). I didn’t seed this one this year so must be seed bank from previous attempt to establish it. Wonder if it will have time to turn red?

Spikes of two completely different shapes, long skinny pointe and wild cutout patterns, branching from a single plant. All green still without the red color on the bracts which give it its name.

We pick up some more paw paw trees for our grove.

It’s a beautiful native small tree with large, lush leaves that give the garden an almost tropical look.
It supports wildlife, too! Pawpaw is the only host plant for the beautiful Zebra Swallowtail butterfly — its caterpillars depend on pawpaw leaves for food.
And then there’s that fruit! Once established, pawpaws can reward you with a late-summer harvest unlike anything you’ll find in the average backyard.

Achoooo! It's Sneezeweed in all of its YELLOW GLORY! It did not make me sneeze. It was given this name because it was used as snuff to make one sneeze out their congestion.

Signing off for the second time tonight with a truly Canadian #nativeplant .

It’s called the Canadian tick flower or Desmodium Canadense and it’s glorious.

A cluster of deep purple flowers, attached to a long, spiny green branch. These have fallen in the rain on Tuesday night and are lying against a horizontal black painted grid low fence in the background. There are a lot of dark green leaves.
