Prepare a safe food supply for the next power outage, flood, or earthquake.

Check your kit and toss any canned goods that are dented, swollen, rusted, or past their expiration date so they're ready when you need them.

Use flashlights instead of candles. Keep generators outdoors, at least 20 feet from doors, windows, and vents. Never operate one indoors or in an enclosed space.

This #NationalPreparednessMonth, create an emergency plan with your family. Talk about:

Where you'll meet if you're separated.
How you'll communicate if cell service is limited.
Who will check on older relatives or neighbors.
What you'll do if an outage lasts several hours or longer.
