How to make imaging faster, sharper, easier?

It turns out "self-blinking dyes" - which can switch between bright and dark states on their own - can take super-resolution microscopy to the next level: www.uni-goettingen.de/en/3240.html...

Research in #NanoLetters: doi.org/10.1021/acs....

There are six images - all on black background with a detailed image in pale blue or turquoise. Self-blinking dye used in different cellular structures and imaging techniques: Top row, super-resolution images of vimentin, microtubules, and mitochondria (left to right), demonstrating clear and robust imaging of different cellular structures. Bottom row, microtubules imaged using wide-field SMLM, fluores-cence-lifetime SMLM (FL-SMLM), and MINFLUX (left to right), showing that the same self-blinking labelling strategy is compatible with different super-resolution microscopy techniques.

🧺 A quantum physics term borrowed from a bamboo basket weaver.

"Kagome" = kago (basket) + me (holes). NIMS built one from propeller-shaped molecules that self-assemble, with some electrons massless and others frozen in place.
