The Nanami behavior in question is drinking even though you know you shouldn't but still doing it For Reasons & was an in-dream reference to Bitters, the latest installment in the Bread Maker AU that haunts me to finish it.

He may not be planning to have a kid or a dozen to leave the Gojo clan properly positioned for the next few generations, but his elders are. He gets some leeway now because he’s still young and wilful and there are enough little fires around that asking him to find a spouse and knock her up would come across as frivolous and reckless. But as soon as the situation evens out again, they’ll be on his case about it and he’ll have to comply, whether he agrees or not.”

On some level, Nanami knew this. He’d heard Gojo complain about the clan elders trying to set up omiai meetings since they were in school together. He had no idea how many he received while he was away in Kyoto, but in the past two years, Gojo had brought it up a handful of times again.

The few times he’d allowed himself to pay more than a passing glance at his own feelings towards Gojo, the matter of clan politics and, specifically, heritage and lineage, had been enough to shut down that train of thought. Nanami was, in the grand scheme of things, no one to come and throw a wrench into centuries of tradition, so he hadn’t dared think of a life where he could be anything other than Gojo’s friend. He knew that, and had, to a degree, accepted it.

It still stung like hell when someone else lay the facts in front of him with such detached indifference.
