The 1st time I saw a Spotted Towhee, he was barging across my driveway as if on his way to the House of Commons to thunder:

“We shall fight them in the shrubbery!”

And every Spotted Towhee has been Winston Churchill to me ever since.

A gorgeous Spotted Towhee. He is a stout bird with a barrel chest and long tail trailing his compact form. His head and throat are black, his wings are black with white spots, his sides are a gorgeous rufous orange color, his eyes are red, his beak is red, and his little feet look tiny under his big belly. We have placed a top hat on him, which is perfect as his coloring and shape look for all the world like a waist coat on a fine gentlemen.
