#My1970sDiary - Inspector Clouseau?
Sept 24, 1972–194

My friend took a bunch of us to Magic Mountain for her birthday. “We think we saw Peter Sellers.” I vaguely remember some guy telling us he was Peter Sellers. But Sellers was most likely living in London at this time. Plus…

#My1970sDiary - First Plane Ride
Sept 23, 1973

On this date 53 years ago, at the age of 12, my dad took me and my little brother on our first flight, a PSA “super” 727 from Burbank to San Diego and then a 737 back. I think it cost may $16 a ticket? I was so excited.

#My1970sDiary - Girls Being Ignored
Sept 22, 1973

“Today we went to the store and they got mad at Mary & me because we said a guy was following us.”

I assume we weren’t making this up as a way to prank the store manager. But… I can’t be sure.

#My1970sDiary - Kaos on the shower
Sept 19, 1972-74

In 1972, at the age of 11 in 7th grade and really puny, I took my first shower in PE, something I was terrified about. “Complete kaos.” Spelled the only way I knew how — from watching “Get Smart.”

Two years later…

For three years in a row, the most boring life ever.

Woo Pig Sooie! Relatives from Arkansas visited on this date on 1973 (“Murtle” was actually Myrtle), and they went to see top ranked #USC defeat the Razorbacks at the Coliseum, 17-0. #FightOn Anthony Davis, Pat Haden, Lynn Swann and coach John McKay. Glory days.

“School was fun! Sort of.” Hahahaha. I saw Frank in 1972 and 1974 and I have no idea who Frank is. But I DO remember “Planet of the Apes.” #DamnDirtyApe youtu.be/3AZDUXxNBFs?...

#My1970sDiary - Sept 13, 1972-74

Among the inanities — “There was no problem at school today,” (was there usually a problem?), or “I got my picture taken today, I hope it turns out all right,” I wrote in 1973 about my nephew, Eddie. He suffered from childhood leukemia and

This is like an episode of “The Wonder Years.”

— I watch “Bonanza,” — “Joe got married & his wife died in a fire.” Of course she did. Btw, the wife is played by Bonnie Bedelia, aka “Mrs. McClane.” Plus…

#My1970sDiary - Sept 11, 1972-74

It’s tough to post anything on 9/11, but I’m posting my awkward preteen diary from the ‘70s to reflect a seemingly more innocent time. In ‘73, at age 12, my teacher brags he takes 29 vitamins a meal. And in ‘74, I meet Jim for the first time…

Back in the olden days, when kids could walk to the store by themselves!, we would take a shortcut by squeezing through the gates at the Junior high school. “The store” usually meant JJ Newberry, a now defunct five and dime place. Think TJ Maxx. But apparently

On this date 53 years ago, I went to the #SaugusSpeedway (IYKYK). “We got mad at this girl.” Because that is what girls do. #My1970sDiary

#My1970sDiary — The Original Shock Jock
Sept. 6, 1972-74

Bill Ballance was an original. He had a radio show in Los Angeles in the early ‘70s called “Feminine Forum,” which was quite racy for its time. Women would call in and talk about their sex lives, and my father thought it was hilarious…

Nothing to see here, other than my sister, Beth, is moving away to college (she would later drop out and become a hippie and lead a very interesting life). Beth passed away a few weeks ago, and I miss her so much. She had the best laugh.
