Tawny Owl

Description in alt.

The alt Alt theme for #BirdOfTheDay is #Airborne any bird in flight.

#TawnyOwl #MuncasterCastle

A landscape orientated image taken at Muncaster Castle in Cumbria. They have a fabulous hawk and owl centre that’s well worth a visit if you’re ever over that way. It was our second visit and we’ll definitely go again.
This is a photo of a tawny owl that’s just taken off from a tree stump. The stump is on the bottom left vertical third the bird is central at the top horizontal third. Its wings are out but not yet stretched out. It’s flying towards the right and looking straight ahead. The backdrop is green foliage.

Autumn Memories

Description in alt.

Sabine is looking for mellow moods and I’d say my darling mum was feeling pretty mellow sitting in these beautiful surroundings.

This was taken in 2020, we lost her in 2022 💛

A landscape orientated image. It was taken in the garden of Muncaster Castle 6 years ago now. There’s a fabulous Japanese maple dominating the left of the image all decked out in autumn colours. On the right is an orange bench on which sits my lovely mum. She was 91 at the time and still very much enjoying life, and who wouldn’t enjoy colours like these 🍁🍂🍁

Hooded Vulture

Description in alt.

Ian has set the theme for #BirdOfTheDay as
#Raptors; any bird of prey.

I’m going with this #HoodedVulture photographed at #MuncasterCastle who work in conservation with this endangered species.

#birds #ECK #birdphotography #naturephotography #birdsofbluesky

A landscape orientated image of a hooded vulture taking off from a tree stump. The stump is in the bottom right corner of the image and the bird is taking off from it going towards the left. His wings are up, his head is jutting out and just the tips of his claws remain in contact with the stump. The backdrop is thrown out of focus by a narrow depth of field.

This vulture is called Mouse and is one of a few at the hawk and owl centre in Muncaster Castle. The centre do great work in helping conserve this amazing species. Vultures are critically endangered, which is a worry as they are an important part of the ecosystem.

Here’s a couple of things Muncaster says about them. Vultures fill a vital ecological niche. They are obligate scavengers – this means they have a diet entirely made up of carrion (dead animals). By consuming a carcass, vultures can eliminate it as a potential harbour for disease and bacteria. Vultures are also an important indicator species – it means that the health of vulture populations is a biological reflection on the health of the ecosystem.

A landscape oriented image, its portrait of a southern white face owl taken at Muncaster Castle earlier this month. It’s on the right of the image looking left. It’s a small mainly black and white owl with a very cute moustache.

I’m posting it for Bird of the Day, Helen has set a fun theme of # Caption that Bird. So post a bird photo that makes you smile with a witty caption.

My caption, because of the cute moustache is “ I decided to get a head start on movember this year”.
