![[Image: The Seasons (1896) color lithograph series by Alfons Maria Mucha, known internationally as Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939).]
About the Paintings:
Mucha created these four panels for a wealthy client who went on to order two similar sets based on the same theme. Here the artist captures captures the moods of the seasons: innocent Spring, sultry Summer, fruitful Autumn and frosty Winter. Together they represent the harmonious cycle of Nature. The idea of personifying the seasons was nothing new in Mucha’s time. We see examples in the works of the Old Masters. Mucha's nymph-like women set against seasonal views of the countryside, however, breathed new life into a classic theme.](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_fullsize/plain/did:plc:ihe5ujziqrf64dcehi26zrj5/bafkreictgymxjo2trfle5iad6h3cbr4gkf7heth4nftmltasztykkmunaq@jpeg)
