Schistosomes are #parasitic flatworms that cycle between mollusk & mammal (or bird) hosts, causing #disease in humans.

Larvae swim thru water, then shed their tails as they pierce & burrow through host skin. Gnarly! But tail proteins may help in developing a #vaccine.

On day 1, Plasmodium won the vote for "most beautiful parasite!"

This single-celled #parasite is what makes the #mosquito the most deadly animal in the world. How? By causing #malaria!
