A towering moth-like feminine figure stands at the center of a vast, decaying Gothic cathedral. Her pale, expressionless face emerges from an elaborate organic crown of curled fibers and tall featherlike antennae. Enormous wings spread nearly from wall to wall behind her, patterned like aged moth wings but constructed from translucent, cracked panels resembling damaged stained glass. Muted ivory, faded blue, ochre, rust, and charcoal sections are divided by dark veins and thin structural ribs. Fine copper-colored filaments radiate from her body and wings like exposed nerves or delicate wire. Her long gown appears assembled from layers of translucent fabric, dried organic material, and brittle fragments, spilling downward toward the shadowed cathedral floor. Above her, hundreds of small pale moths sweep through a shaft of light, forming a luminous arch beneath the broken vaulted ceiling. A dark circular rose window occupies the distant background. Ornate columns, carved figures, hanging cocoons, candles, and heavy drapery crowd both sides of the nave, while warm points of candlelight glow against the predominantly cool, dim interior.
