I was not in Toronto last weekend, which meant that I missed the Mid-Autumn Festival.
However, I came back just in time to get half-price mooncakes from the local Chinese grocery!

@larablan.bsky.social—yesterday I cleared the decks and spent the whole day wrapping and baking 92 #mooncakes (having made mung bean paste, white bean paste, and chestnut fillings on the weekend). Mid-Autumn Festival is Friday!

Tried a mooncake.
Um….would I be mistaken in thinking that Asian gifting Moon festival moon cakes is a lot American gifting Xmas fruitcake?
More about the gifting than the eating?

@sonicfantami.bsky.socialMoon festival in Shan-Lai🌕🥮. The last picture I did was from today. Xiao-Mo has a box of moon cakes she and her grandfather made that she's giving to shadow. There's chocolate and coffee moon cakes in there too

@aphoeniceus.bsky.socialEvery year I rush to the local Asian markets to buy moon cakes before they sell out. This year, these Dao Xian Cun Rose and Redbean cakes are the clear best in show!!
