Takami doesn’t move as Hitoshi walks up to him from behind, but the moment Hitoshi puts a hand on his shoulder, he twitches. Hitoshi can’t tell if it’s nerves or anticipation or what. Whatever it is, he leans down so he can whisper into his ear, “Breathe.” Takami breathes. “This is a little weird, isn’t it?” Hitoshi says. “We’ve never touched before.” “I… It’s not that weird.” Hitoshi tilts Takami’s head back and looks at him upside down, admiring the pointed markings at the corners of his eyes. He strokes the scar that runs along the side of his neck and jaw with a smile. “Indulge me.”

Then Hakamada does something truly perplexing. He does nothing. He just stands there and watches Takami. It’s so quiet in the room, Hitoshi is scared to breathe too loud. Katsuki and Neito are still as statues. Eventually, Takami breaks composure and shifts a little. The rope slides off his shoulder. Hakamada tsks. “Did I say you could move?” “I’m sorry, Hakamada-dono.”

Only when Neito turns around to face Katsuki and demands to know why he’s siding with Hitoshi when he’s “being unreasonable,” does Katsuki finally speak up. “I’m not.” “You’re not siding with him?” “No. I’m just saying you gotta do as he says.” Neito makes an indignant noise. “Katsuki. Do you know what you’re saying and who you’re saying it to? When have I ever just done as Hitoshi says?” Good question. “And since when do you just do as Hitoshi says?” Neito asks.
