It's #MonographMonday!

This one is from Charles Darwin's work on fossil gooseneck barnacles (Volume 5, Issue 13 1951).

Darwin had a love-hate relationship with barnacles. The following year he wrote to his second cousin, W. D. Fox, and said that "[he] hate[d] a barnacle as no man ever did before".

Happy #MonographMonday!

This plate depicts a fossil colony of Thecosmilia annularis. The detail is absolutely stunning!

A black and white plate depicting several corallites of the coral Thecosmilia annularis, showing numerous closely packed, tubular coral corallites with finely ridged walls. Several corallites are viewed from above.
