On a King Kong movie set, an actor in a bulky gorilla suit lounges beside stacked equipment while crew members, a movie camera, boom microphones and studio lights surround him. A speech balloon from the gorilla-suited actor asks, “WHAT’S MY MOTIVATION?” A caption box reads: “WHEN THE PRODUCERS OF ‘KING KONG’ DECIDED TO USE ANIMATION INSTEAD OF AN ACTOR IN A GORILLA SUIT.” The joke casts the actor’s demand for psychological motivation as the final nuisance that convinces the filmmakers to dispense with him entirely.
