With more and more websites going down, whether overwhelmed by bot traffic or starved of ad revenue, it is time for scholarly referencing guidelines for citing a website to include an archived version, just as Wikipedia has long recommended en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikiped... #metascience

It's rather wonderful to be back at Harvard (as a visiting scholar this term) where I spent so much time 15-20 years ago. We both have aged and are wiser (and look more upmarket), but the intellectual excitement and inspiration remains the same.

Great news! Our team has secured three new UKRI metascience projects worth approximately Β£500,000 in total! Helping shape how science is evaluated and funded.

"AI cannot replace human participants in behavioral research"

My take: fair for new findings, less so for replications. #LLMs have absorbed the nomological networks between constructs, so they may reproduce known effects.

How to prevent this problem? Instrumentation stamping artifacts with cryptographically signed attestation for provenance? That could be useful for more than just fraud detection.

Authorship and beyond: accountability, transparency, credit

Tuesday 3 November 10:45 to 11:45 GMT / UTC (
time zone converter
)
Good authorship practices are designed to promote core principles of publication ethics for example: accountability, transparency, integrity, and fairness. This session explores challenges in applying those principles to practice.
We will consider not only authorship in the traditional sense, but also related mechanisms such as acknowledgements, contributor statements, and disclosures. Bringing together perspectives from academics, institutions, and publishers, we will examine how our authorship practices can better support publication ethics.

Interesting reading. But this line from the author felt piercing, β€œnote: I personally view wanting to be first to a discovery as a relatively fixed behavioral quality of scientists for at least the next few generations.” When did we become about priority > purpose? #scisci #metascience #histsci

2/2 Yet a seniority gap remains: women had 27% lower odds of last authorship, a position that often signals seniority or lab leadership and was still most commonly held by men.

Music psychology is more balanced than many STEM fields, but barriers to senior leadership remain. #gender #metascience
