ATAK und Meshtastic können auch für zivile Einsätze eingesetzt werden, z. B. bei Personensuche oder Waldbränden. Rettungshundestaffeln können ihre Einsätze effektiv koordinieren. Im Hochgebirge können sich Bergsteiger und Skifahrergruppen koordinieren. Gleiches gilt für Gruppen von Jägern, Holzfällern und Forstbeamten.[25]
Kommunikation im Katastrophenfall
Aufgrund des geringen Stromverbrauchs und der Unabhängigkeit von zentraler Infrastruktur eignet sich Meshtastic für die Kommunikation bei Großkatastrophen wie Stromausfälle, Cyberangriffe, Erdbeben, Überschwemmungen, Stürmen, Großbränden, Terroranschlägen und Kriegen. Die einzelnen Geräte können bei ausgefallenem Elektrizitätsnetz über Solarzellen, Kurbelgeneratoren u. ä. betrieben werden, da diese ausreichend Leistung für den Betrieb bereitstellen.[32][33]
Einsatz als alternative Netzinfrastruktur in Staaten mit repressiver Militärdiktatur (z. B. Myanmar)
Aufgrund der hohen Verfügbarkeit, der geringen Kosten, der Erweiterbarkeit und der Robustheit wird der Einsatz von Meshtastic als alternatives dezentrales Kommunikationsnetzwerk zur Versorgung besonders der ländlichen Bevölkerung in Myanmar, auch unter Betrachtung der aktuell dort wirkenden repressiven Militärdiktatur, wissenschaftlich untersucht und diskutiert.[4]
Taktischer Einsatz TAK
Eine weitere Anwendung ist die Verwendung von Meshtastic mit einem Tactical Assault oder Team Awareness Kit (TAK). Dabei handelt es sich um ein Programm, welches den Standort aller Teilnehmer auf geografischen Karten beispielsweise auf einem Smartphone anzeigen kann.
