A cataract echoes
in caverns of sleep: in

Ravenous watching,
dark as guilt
broad as regret

She arrived at the university wide-eyed
Excited to learn with peers with backgrounds worldwide
Melange of lifestyles
No longer exiles
Forging their own path that classes and friends provide

We called them melanges: the random concoctions the kids made when we met up with friends. Marmite, mud & ketchup, anyone?

It kept them quiet. But we did have to taste it.

“Ew!” I said once, mouth full of gloop. “Worst #melange ever!”

“That’s my mum’s stew,” Fin said. #vss365

Don't imagine
for a moment
I have a thoroughbred dog
If you ever thought this
you'd be totally wrong

I think I ate too much Salad #Melange:
I dreamt the salad fell on me like an avalanche!
Couldn’t breathe, almost died,
Buried in a tumbling green landslide,
Lollo rossa, Swiss chard, rucola.

Desperate in the leaves, I took my chance..
