Harvest time on #CartonHouse golf course in #Maynooth. #autumn #fall

A square-cropped telephoto view of a round bale of hay on a freshly cut area of grass with old trees, a bridge, and an ornate boat house in soft focus behind, all under an overcast sky.

I’ve been wrestling with the villanelle form and am afraid it has broken me! It really doesn’t allow for any give! Anyway, here’s a poem about the oldest tree in Ireland (or so I was told).

#villanelle #Kildare #Maynooth #Cromabú #poetry

Yew Tree at Maynooth
This yew remembers his back on its bark.
Strange melodies coiled in roots underground.
Skin lily white, cap's embroidered silk mark.
Fingers pluck lute strings, dull notes falling stark.
Sanguineous arils hang heavy and round.
This yew remembers his back on its bark.
Bréagadóiri tricks cast wide for a lark.
Russet-red fissure where poison is found.
Skin lily white, cap's embroidered silk mark.
Stanihurst's 'brainless boy' fighting monarch or Pale and Gael hero at last unbound?
This yew remembers his back on its bark.
Crom abú to St. Mary's in rebel arc.
To surrender sword, the Council confound.
Skin lily white, cap's embroidered silk mark.
Leave our shores! Now English-born must embark.
Under siege, stone walls artillery pound.
This yew remembers his back on its bark.
Skin lily white, cap's embroidered silk mark.

A second harvest— it's been such a good summer that the wild flower meadows in St. Patrick's College #Maynooth needed to be harvested for hay twice!

A portrait-oriented landscape shot taken on a yellow-born field of fresh cut hay with a round hay bale in the foreground, and a large three-story neo-gothic building with a big church spire in the background, and a clear blue sky above. Because of the warm low sun, the bale casts a long shadow.

It's almost like the wonderful red #autumn (#fall) colours in the Boston Ivy wash down from the roof of Stoyte House in St. Patrick's College #Maynooth!

A view towards the Ivy-covered gable of a large three-story Georgian building along a path running diagonally toward the door at the centre of the gable. The Ivy is green on the lower half of the building, but a deep burgundy red on the top half. A tree branch frames the top-right corner of the image to balance the portrait-oriented composition.

Broken symmetry — nature trumps the architect's designs 🙂

One of the arches through Stoyte House for accessing St. Joseph's Square in St. Patrick's College #Maynooth. #blackAndWhite #architecture

A view of a large stone arch cropped to the exact edges of the surrounding stone work. The arch is perfectly symmetrical, but the ivy encroaching into it is all in the top-left corner.

The Boston Ivy in St. Patrick's College #Maynooth is starting to turn red, St. Joseph's square really is at its most spectacular in #autumn (#fall)!

A portrait-oriented view of a part of a grand old building covered in ivy, mostly green, but one section gas turned a deep rich burgundy red. There is a stone arch at the bottom of the frame, allowing pedestrians through the building, and big Georgian window with small white-framed panes directly above.

Tiny little Fairy Foxgloves clinging to the edge of the #RoyalCanal quay side at Pike Bridge east of #Maynooth. #Bloomscrolling

A close top-down view of a small plant with two stalks topped with purple flowers looking along a stone wall towards water. The plant has small leaves tucked close to the stonework, and two short flower stalk shoot up from these leaves towards the camera. Small spherical groups of a handful of all-purple flowers, each with five well separated petals with a ridge running down their centers

The season is coming to an end, and as the days cool, the butterflies need to spend more time sunbathing to raise their body temperature. This makes them a lot more docile, making closeups a lot easier!

I snapped this beautiful Painted Lady #Butterfly in @maynoothuniversity.ie. #Maynooth

A top-down diagonally composed closeup of a mostly brown butterfly, perched on big dark yellow daisies with conical black centers with wings wide open. The butterfly’s torso is brown and hairy, and there are little areas of different colours towards the edge of the wings, mostly orange and black, with a little white.

Wish I could attend but very sadly I can't as Co. Antrim is closer to Scotland than elsewhere in Ireland!!! #Maynooth #medievalsky

Racing the train — I was genuinely curious whether the distant #IrishRail InterCity train or the approaching runner would reach me first along the banks of the #RoyalCanal easy of #Maynooth.

I was hoping the'd get to me at the same time, but alas, the train 'won', so the runner is quite small.

The sunflowers in their sheltered spot at the top of Main St. in #Maynooth are at their best at the moment! #Bloomscrolling
