What does an elevator graph’s slope tell us?

If it rises 3 floors each second:

y = 3x

The slope 3 is the unit rate: 3 floors per second. The camera moves vertically with the elevator, but the proportional graph is y = 3x. A truly vertical graph line has undefined slope.

Why does 2 × 3E8 equal 6E8?

3E8 is calculator notation for 3 × 10⁸, or 300 million. Doubling 300 million produces 600 million:

2 × 3E8 = 6E8

A compact scientific-notation calculation with an enormous result.

How can three characters represent roughly eight billion people?

8E9 is calculator notation for 8 × 10⁹.

Because 10⁹ equals one billion, 8 × 10⁹ equals eight billion. Scientific notation expresses enormous scale without writing every zero.

Why does ∛27 = 3?

A cube root finds the equal edge length that creates a cube’s volume.

Since 3 × 3 × 3 = 27, a cube with a volume of 27 cubic units has an edge length of 3 units.

That’s why ∛27 = 3.

If a square has an area of 64 square units, each side is 8 units:

√64 = 8
8 × 8 = 64

A square root reverses squaring, connecting the area of a square to its side length.

What is √121?

Why does 2³ × 2² = 2⁵?

Exponents count factors. The first power has three factors of 2, and the second has two more. Together, that makes five.

When multiplying powers with the same base, keep the base and add the exponents.

0.75 stops. 0.333… repeats.

Both are rational because both equal fractions:

0.75 = 3/4
0.333… = 1/3

A rational decimal either terminates or eventually repeats a fixed pattern. That’s the rule.
