A minute of calm with Native American flute, a lake in autumn, and Mary Oliver (from “The Journey”). Wishing you peace on this beautiful day! #nature #flute #maryoliver #chill #peaceful

Poetry is a life-cherishing force.
For poems are not words, after all,
but fires for the cold, ropes let down to the lost,
something as necessary as bread in the pockets of the hungry.

“And that is just the point... how the world, moist and beautiful, calls to each of us to make a new and serious response. That's the big question, the one the world throws at you every morning. "Here you are, alive. Would you like to make a comment?”
― Mary Oliver

A vertical late-afternoon landscape photograph capturing a scenic rural road curving past a sunlit grove of paper birch trees. Warm golden-hour sunlight illuminates the slender white trunks and delicate golden-green canopy of the birches, making them glow against a dark, forested hillside and a rolling field in the background. In the foreground, smooth gray asphalt curves around the bend with bright double yellow lines and faint, sweeping black tire marks curving along the lane. A tall wooden utility pole stands beside the grove under a pale autumn sky.

A horizontal photograph capturing two Canada geese in synchronized flight across a pale, overcast autumn sky. The geese are positioned in the upper portion of the frame, angled upward and flying toward the right with wings outstretched, their distinctive dark necks and white cheek patches silhouetted against the clouds. Below, a calm, rippling body of water meets a low, narrow shoreline with subtle winter trees and dark coastal brush along the horizon. The composition balances quiet negative space with the natural momentum of migration, evoking themes of movement and seasonal return.

"This is the wish to touch their faces, their brown wrists—
to sing some sparkling poem into
the folds of their ears,
then walk with them,
over the hills
and over the hills
and into the impossible trees"

Song for Autumn by Mary Oliver

Don’t you imagine the leaves dream now
how comfortable it will be to touch
the earth instead of the
nothingness of the air and the endless
freshets of wind? And don’t you think
the trees, especially those with
mossy hollows, are beginning to look for

the fires that will come—six, a dozen—to sleep
inside their bodies? And don’t you hear
the goldenrod whispering goodbye,
the everlasting being crowned with the first
tuffets of snow? The pond
stiffens and the white field over which
the fox runs so quickly brings out
its long blue shadows. The wind wags
its many tails. And in the evening
the piled firewood shifts a little,
longing to be on its way.

Don't deny yourself this just because it happens to be in the X Twitter platform
Which still has plenty of diamonds in the rough and even polished.

When Death Comes by Mary Oliver

When death comes
like the hungry bear in autumn;
when death comes and takes all the bright coins from his purse

to buy me, and snaps the purse shut;
when death comes
like the measle-pox

when death comes
like an iceberg between the shoulder blades,

I want to step through the door full of curiosity, wondering:
what is it going to be like, that cottage of darkness?

And therefore I look upon everything
as a brotherhood and a sisterhood,
and I look upon time as no more than an idea,
and I consider eternity as another possibility,

and I think of each life as a flower, as common
as a field daisy, and as singular,

and each name a comfortable music in the mouth,
tending, as all music does, toward silence,

and each body a lion of courage, and something
precious to the earth.

When it’s over, I want to say all my life
I was a bride married to amazement.
I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms.

When it’s over, I don’t want to wonder
if I have made of my life something particular, and real.

I don’t want to find myself sighing and frightened,
or full of argument.

I don’t want to end up simply having visited this world.

And they call again, ”It's simple,” they say,
”and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled
with light, and to shine.”
