β οΈ Dead man's fingers are a type of soft coral. π They feed on passing plankton.π¦ Each polyp extends their 8 tentacles, giving them a fuzzy appearance. π§Έ
Local fossil hunter Jake came across this modern sea urchin this weekend! The sea urchin shell would have been covered in spines and tiny tube feet when alive, for protection and to help it move & feed. We sometimes find sea urchins living in the rockpools around Lyme Regis. #MarineMonday
It's #MarineMonday and the results are in from the #greatbritishbeachclean and over 95% of the rubbish we collected in #Charmouth were small pieces of plastics. Results have been uploaded to the @mcsuk.bsky.social
