Catherine Hyde captured this beautiful image of #M74, in the constellation Pisces, last Saturday. Thank you! 📸

It’s nicknamed the #PhantomGalaxy because its starlight is spread out and highly diffused, giving it a ghostly look. 👻🌌

M74 The Phantom Galaxy - telescope processed image. Featuring clean, perfectly defined spiral arms originating from a central nucleus, it serves as a textbook example of a grand design spiral galaxy.M74 The Phantom Galaxy - unprocessed image. Astronomers detected an ultra-luminous X-ray source inside it, hinting at a rare intermediate-mass black hole roughly 10,000 times the mass of the Sun.
