I almost missed this one - we know there’s hot magma under the ice of Mýrdalsjökull, & it melts this from below .... & sometimes it drains away - in stages or all at once (there are more than 20 of these "under-the-ice lakes")

In volcanic geology, and that includes tectonics, the be-all and end-all is to gather information. Mother Earth acts much more slowly than we humans would like. Things that happen today may only become relevant in 10 years .....
