We should be outraged whenever ANYONE experiences gender-based violence. Black survivors like Kendall Francis deserve our rage, advocacy, and solidarity. 💜💜

Black background. At the top center, in capital letters, neon green-yellow hashtags read: “End Rape Culture,” “Stop The Violence,” and “End GBV.” Below this is a graphic of the Black Women's Triangulation of Rape pyramid created by the SASHA Center in 2018. The layers of the pyramid feature the layers of dehumanization that lead to gender-based violence against Black women, including devaluing and denying experiences of violence; colonial racial stereotypes; objectification; and anti-black policies and denial of culturally relevant resources, wraparound supports and opportunities. Black background. At the top center, capitalized, neon green-yellow hashtags read: “End Rape Culture,” “Stop The Violence,” and “End GBV.” Below this, white text reads: “Our shared struggle as survivors of patriarchal violence does not erase the unique systemic and institutional anti-black racism and misogynoir that specifically affects the experiences of Black survivors.”Black background. At the top center, in capital letters, neon green-yellow hashtags read: “End Rape Culture,” “Stop The Violence,” and “End GBV.” Below this is a photo of Kendall Francis, a young Black LSU student. She holds up a purple-and-gold LSU Tigers pennant. She is standing outside, smiling and looking directly at the camera. She has long, dark hair and braces. She wears a white T-shirt with LSU Tigers mascot graphics and denim jeans. Below the image, white and neon green-yellow text reads: “Kendall Francis' story deserves both media attention and our focus. Beneath this is the hashtag Black Survivors Are Not Disposable.”

Anti-Black racism and misogynoir are deeply embedded in the fabric of every system and institution Black survivors must navigate in their quest for visibility, safety, healing, and justice. Kendall, we are here; we are listening. 💜💜

Black background. At the top center, in capital letters, neon green-yellow hashtags read: “End Rape Culture,” “Stop The Violence,” and “End GBV.” Below and to the left is a close-up image of a Black woman. She is looking straight ahead. She has dark skin and Black hair and wears a septum piercing. The right side of the graphic is dominated by text and statistics. White and neon text read, "1 IN 4 Black girls will be sexually abused before the age of 18; 35% of Black women experienced some form of contact sexual violence during their lifetime; and 40% TO 60% of Black women report being subjected to coercive sexual contact by age 18."Black background. At the top center, in capital letters, neon green-yellow hashtags read: “End Rape Culture,” “Stop The Violence,” and “End GBV.” Below this, white and neon green-yellow text reads: “The mainstream news media often overlooks, stereotypes, and pathologizes Black victims and survivors of state-sponsored violence and gendered violence. This not only renders our stories as insignificant but also reinforces systemic inequalities that directly contribute to and worsen gender-based violence against Black women, children, and gender-expansive folks.”Black background. At the top center, in capital letters, neon green-yellow hashtags read: “End Rape Culture,” “Stop The Violence,” and “End GBV.” Below this, white and neon green-yellow text reads: “Racial and patriarchal violence were foundational to the establishment of colonial empires. Chattel slavery was an entire economic system that dehumanized Black people, reducing them to mere property (chattel). It systematically stripped them of bodily autonomy, leading to human trafficking, widespread physical and sexual violence, and forced breeding for labour and profit.”Black background. At the top center, in capital letters, neon green-yellow hashtags read: “End Rape Culture,” “Stop The Violence,” and “End GBV.” Below this, white and neon green-yellow text reads: “Racial tropes like “Jezebel,” “The Strong Black Woman,” and “The Angry Black Woman” were systematically constructed during the Trans-Atlantic slave trade and the era of chattel slavery to further justify the economic exploitation, dehumanization, and genocide of Black people. This has contributed to the current disproportionately high rates of GBV within Black communities, as well as the institutional disparities in reporting, communal support, and legal protections available for Black survivors. It also influences societal perceptions of who is deemed worthy of public empathy, protection, and care.”

Kendall Francis' story, like those of many other Black folks who are victims of missing-person cases, rape, and femicide/transicide, received markedly less media attention and public support. Please don't let her story be forgotten.

Black background. At the top center, in capital letters, neon green-yellow hashtags read: “End Rape Culture,” “Stop The Violence,” and “End GBV.” Below this, large, bold, left-aligned neon green-yellow text reads: “The erasure of Black survivors like Kendall Francis from mainstream media isn't an oversight; it's part of a pattern.” On the right side of the image, taking up the remaining half, is a close-up portrait of Kendall Francis, a young Black woman with box braids in a ponytail. She is wearing clear-rimmed glasses with a tortoiseshell pattern. She is wearing a dark top and a thin gold chain necklace. A small black microphone is clipped to her shirt near her collarbone. Her head is turned slightly to her right, and she appears to be speaking or looking off-camera. Black background with a faded image of the 2014 LSU Logo, featuring the official LSU colours, purple and gold, and a cartoon illustration of Mike the Tiger. Layered over the image, at the top center, in capital letters, neon green-yellow hashtags read: “End Rape Culture,” “Stop The Violence,” and “End GBV.” Below this, white and neon green-yellow text reads: “Kendall Danielle Francis, a Louisiana State University (LSU) student, was sexually assaulted on Oct. 18, 2025, by fellow student Damien Shanklin. LSU found the football player responsible for sexual assault through its Title IX process and suspended him for one year. Following his appeal, Shanklin's one-year suspension was reduced to two years of probation without restrictions, allowing him to return to campus and the LSU football team.”Black background. At the top center, in capital letters, neon green-yellow hashtags read: “End Rape Culture,” “Stop The Violence,” and “End GBV.” Below this, white and neon green-yellow text reads: “In September 2026, Kendall spoke publicly with WAFB Channel 9 News and in a series of TikTok posts, detailing her experience, the filing of the Title IX complaint, and criticizing the dismissiveness of LSU and campus police. The East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s Office has since launched a criminal investigation.”Black background. At the top center, in capital letters, neon green-yellow hashtags read: “End Rape Culture,” “Stop The Violence,” and “End GBV.” Below this, white and neon green-yellow text reads: “Black survivors like Kendall Francis deserve our rage, support, and advocacy. The truth is, survivors' stories do not receive equal attention. Despite being significantly more impacted by street harassment, sexual assault and gender-based violence, Black survivors often do not receive the same degree of grace, empathy, media coverage and public advocacy.”
