In this case, I felt like Pierce DeLuca and Mila were shafted. I was left feeling like their story was only half told. This was my first time with this author. I will try again, because even though I believe there's more to tell here, I do like the overall arc. A few things to note. One, there are plenty of hints to the first book, so this should likely be read in order, but I was able to follow along fine. Two, this is more of an HFN. As the lead in for the next book was provided, it's possible their HEA comes later in the series. Three, there are some content warnings that you may want to heed, most of it is offscreen - non-con, violence, and abuse are the biggest ones. Oh, one other thing. This is supposed to be 290 pages, but based on the listening time of the audio, I'd put it at about half that length. That's either some creative formatting or a misprint. I won a copy of the audio book. The narrators are Eva Caine and Walker Williams. Both are new to me, and I liked them a lot. The accents weren't consistent, but I still enjoyed the experience. Sometimes by my own family, despite their love.' -- Brenna Donnelly Emilio Jacob Ricci, known as Jacob to those close to him, comes across as tough but lost. He's been struggling after the death of someone he loved. When he takes over for his ailing father, he gets a marriage thrown at him. I like how he accepts the new arrangement as his fate, but I don't like how he handles things with his new bride. Thankfully, Brenna is on it and is determined to turn things around. (Hint: her determination pays off.) 😉 Even though I saw the twist coming, it still seems crazy. What comes next are the things triggers are made from, so be warned. That said, I approve of Jacob's justice. To get something that better resembles an HEA, I strongly recommend the bonus epilogue. It's a sizzling 🌶 evening with something sweet that made me happy that I found and read it. 👑 I read along with the audio book. The narrators, Walker Williams and Eve Cain, do a good job.
