A young male rufous hummingbird is flaring his wings outward from his body to slow his speed as he comes in for his personal meal I made him that morning so he can judge me on its quality as I sip my coffee. He has a beautifully bright iridescent gorget that is primarily orange, but to the sides shows shades of yellow an green due to the angle the light hits it. His body is mainly orange with a white collar of feathers round his neck under the gorget. His tail feathers have primary indicators on them differentiating them from allen's hummingbirds which can look similar to a Rufous hummingbird. The R2 feather displays clearly at the end a notch mark shape unique to Rufous hummingbirds. You can learm more about identifying these birds and others from Sheri L. Williamson (@sherilwilliamson.bsky.social). The trees behind him are green so the sun hadn't scorched them yet here in Colorado. His concerns are the food is still slightly warm and I only play certain music when he's here or he'll come up to the window and look in not approving of the 17th time I've listened to the same Orville Peck song
