The light is on the run these days and it's also my favourite time for light studies: it forces decisions and economy. No time to overthink. No better time to appreciate the sun...while it's leaving us a bit. 🙃

Shading practice. It's slow going, and I despair of ever getting a smooth blend with Krita's brushes, but I think I'm making progress.

A digital drawing of three chess pieces on a white background. The shading is rough and unblended, but distinct.

There is a simple white pawn in the upper left corner, a more elaborate black pawn in the lower left corner, and a white king on the right side. The left half of the image is the same as the first image, but with the addition of light red, sketchy grid lines indicating the shapes and curves of the chess pieces. On the right is the photo reference for the shading study. The main image shows the black pawn and the white king standing on a black surface with an indistinct gray background. Over the right corner of that photo is a smaller, cropped photo of the white pawn.
