This is a photo of a mushroom. It is the side of a mushroom. The structural slats that hold the mushroom are the only part of the mushroom that is visible. Pure white lines of mushroom moving from the bottom to the top. They are craggy and broken and intermittent but always there. There is a fallen autumn leaf on the side. Just to add the brown tan black colour to the photo.

In a shady, lichen-encrusted crevasse on a tree trunk, a tiny almost translucent little spider reaches out a leg to a large fat vaguely peanut-shaped red mite that has tripped a silk line. The mite dwarfs the spider.

This is a small, 4-branched stick that fell out of a huge tree. It’s about 5 centimeters long, and features a few pops of bright yellow sunburst lichen (maybe some different types), several bits of pale sea-green hairy rosette lichen, some oakmoss lichen, and maybe some type of cartilage lichen - also varying shades of sea green. The blurry background is a mottled blur of autumn colors like brown, yellow, orange and green.

A mushroom. A detail of a mushroom. There is the stalk and then the underside of the ribs that hold the top of the mushroom up. The stalk is white, and there is some yellow and the ribs are brown. But it is too close to see the top of the mushroom. It’s just the stalk and the ribs. But there is just a hint, a hint of specks of purple near where the stalk opens out to the ribs. It’s a parasite, something eating the mushroom? Or maybe its symbiotic, and they live happily together. But it looks like tiny tiny tiny sprinkles on one small section of the mushroom.

Bog update. The tiniest flytrap had a leaf open, shown next to the larger one with my pinky nail pointing at it for scale. Also shown, my new collection so far, and a bonus shot of some pretty jelly fungus on my bench.

The flytrap leaf in the center of the image just opened as well, but there is a smaller one just in front of a pinky nail coming in on the left side. Red sphagnum moss surrounds the young plants.

An older Venus flytrap, the traps blushing crimson red in their health, ion front of a tray of purple sphagnum moss and seedlings. A terracotta colored plastic pot in the corner holds what was purchased at Lowe's, along with the flytrap. The others were found growing in the moss, as "weeds" in a big grab bag of live moss that will also grow more beautiful with time.

a dark black slug chomping on a very dirt-coated leaf of lettuce lichen on a pine-needle-strewn forest floor, his poor tail bristling with needles looking like a Carmen Miranda hat as they often do, and one more needle sitting near his (ear? is that what the holes are? for respiration of some sort?)

A light brown slug with more smooth flowing lines on his lower half, lounging HIGH up in a berry bush, whose sheer height from the ground is criminally underrepresented in this photo. HOW he got up that high, I haven't the slightest clue, but he's taking a nap in the canopy.
