@aletheakontis.comThat's it everybody - hope my Library webinar notes were helpful!
@aletheakontis.comPublishing all formats SIMULTANEOUSLY is the most helpful. If possible.
HC, PB & digital.
POD is beneficial because inventory is listed as always available.
Big5 publishers have started to adopt POD for more titles to keep them available indefinitely.
@aletheakontis.comLibraries want to see 2 reviews from PW, Kirkus, or LJ/SLJ. And not just reviews - they want Starred Reviews.
(Alethea's note - some libraries do have standing wholesaler orders of "all the books in X publication that get a starred review.")
@aletheakontis.comDon't copy Big 5 publisher budgets - copy their objectives.
Work to create small, personal, regional, curated email lists. Spend a couple hours every week to develop these relationships.
Find ways to make a Librarian's job easier.
@aletheakontis.com"Direct marketing emails feel like desperation."
Libraries look at newsletters (like Ingram's) that are graphic heavy, include 2-3 books, have clear information but are not wordy (bullet points)
Direct marketing emails from authors are by & large ignored.
@aletheakontis.com"Having major reviews is incredibly important, because it tells us that your book is legit. Especially if you are independently published."
(Alethea's note: This is particularly hard for independent publishers to do if they don't have the money or time in which to do it)
