Tonight I watched the 1959 French film #LesLiaisonsDangereuses. The director, Roger Vadim, cast his own wife in the role of the faithful woman who is seduced by Valmont. What I liked about this version: the closeness and complicity of Madame de Merteuil and Valmont, the score by Thelonious Monk.

Tonight I watched the 1989 remake of #LesLiaisonsDangereuses titled Valmont. What a misleading title. He had hardly any screen time. What this film got right: the humor of the original novel. What it got wrong: the main characters. They should be more sexy at the start, more devastated at the end.

I haven’t yet seen the 2026 kdrama #TheScandal, but I’m willing to bet its sex scenes are less explicit than the 1976 French film based on #LesLiaisonsDangereuses that I watched tonight. Une femme fidele is available on YouTube in the v.o. with the naked bits blurred out.

In fact, #UntoldScandal, the 2003 Korean film also based on #LesLiaisonsDangereuses starred #JeonDoYeon, who is well known for her onscreen sex scenes, in the Cécile de Volanges role and #BaeYongJoon in the Vicomte de Valmont. #Scandal
