Blue-crowned Laughingthrushes (Pterorhinus courtoisi) are Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List with a decreasing population trend, with a maximum estimate of only 249 adults in the wild. The species is endemic to China but the last remaining tiny breeding area is in the Jiangxi Province. The bird trade has/is the main cause of population decline, as well as habitat destruction. It is a forest dwelling bird that eats invertebrates, fruits and seeds. This photo was recently taken at Marwell Zoo (September 2026).
