A few photos from Saturday’s commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the “wedding of the rails” at Lang Station. SCV Historical Society's Alan Pollack & Chinese Historical Society of SoCal's Eugene Moy spoke about this important milestone in #LAhistory (& both took a few swings of the spike maul).

Surrounded by a crowd of people holding their phones up, Eugene Moy grips the spike maul as Alan Pollack steadies the "golden" spike. While a number of folks later took turns actually pounding (sometimes missing) the railroad spike, Eugene Moy was carefully going through the motions of swinging the spike maul. This photo shows the street signs at the intersection of Soledad Canyon Road and Lang Station Road. A banner for the Santa Clarita History Center is tied to the chain link fence.A close up of the "golden" spikes and the spike maul that will be used for the commemoration. I put quotes around golden as I'm unsure if these railroad spikes are made of real gold...? 🤷🏽‍♀️Painted golden-orange with a brown trim, this model of the Lang Station was built for the 1976 commemoration. This particular station that used to stand on this site was the fourth depot built (constructed in the early 1900s). The station closed in 1968 and was demolished in 1971.
