WIP extract book 2 of 6 SlenderWolf In With the In Crowd Chapter 12 A Flood of Tears KristalClear has walked only two steps with NutJob, and she waited meticulously until the door behind them had closed. Unable to contain her emotions any longer, she turns to him, with distressed, soulful eyes. Caught completely off guard, NutJob freezes. For as long as they had known each other she has been the anchor, the one who steered through chaos without blinking. Seeing her now, eyes wide with a raw, agonising vulnerability, is uncharted territory. Reaching out instinctively, his hands hover for a split second before gently holding her by the shoulders. His voice has changed, not his normal pragmatic one, something more gentle, direct, and urgently concerned. “Hey, what’s up?” She doesn’t answer straight away, instead, burying her face in her hands, her shoulders shaking uncontrollably as the dam breaks. “Is this what happiness and meaning is?” she gasps, “we’re doing an emotional juggling act simply to keep onside with our parents?” She wails, “walking a financial tight rope just to stay alive? Before we have to go what do you know about the new electricity substation planned for New Cross in Lancaster? “Oh, it’s definitely coming, is that where you live?” Remembering that they’re not really married and they don’t actually live together, KristalClear doesn’t want to back pedal on the story. She dodges the difficulty by saying, “we live just outside the City Centre.” “When it comes on stream the city centre will benefit almost immediately,” says FlashBang, “the new high capacity lines towards Skerton are complete I think. The substation and the final span across the River Lune should be ready by the end of this year.” “And when will it come on stream?” asks NutJob. “It should all be functional early next year. You’ll have have electricity 24/7 then, New Cross and Skerton fist, and then the City Centre. It won’t be long before it reaches across the whole of the city.” “Wow! That sounds fantastic!” replies KristalClear, “Oh, but you can’t tell anybody yet,” stresses FlashBang, “don’t put it in the paper please!
