Why an Arctic tern?
The smallest bird makes the longest journey β it reads the wind, changes course and keeps going. That is our picture of learning.

One thing I like about the Orchard in Color This 2.0: 20 fruit pictures give kids a recognizable starting point, but thereβs still no βrightβ palette. Purple apples? Glitter pears? Absolutely. πβ¨

A parent-facing feature Iβm excited about in Color This 2.0: Apple Image Playground can help turn an idea into a new coloring page, while the child stays focused on the coloring side of the app. π¨
When I built Color This for my own family, I optimized for handoff friction instead of engagement metrics: no account setup, no ads, offline use, and a UI a child can get into quickly. A few notes on the thinking behind it:

I like screen time that leaves something behind. In Color This, kids aren't scrolling a feed β they're choosing colors, drawing, experimenting and turning one of 12 worlds into their own picture. π¨
Color This started as a practical family project: could I make a creative iPhone/iPad app I'd actually be comfortable handing to a kid? That shaped the ad-free, offline, low-friction design from the start. π¨

Photo import is a small feature with a big effect: it lets something a kid already knows from real life become part of the same drawing workflow as the built-in worlds. π·π¨
The 12 worlds in Color This aren't levels to finish. They're starting points: dinosaurs, scenes and shapes that kids can recolor, scribble over and turn into something completely different. π¨
Photo import means Color This doesn't have to decide what matters to a kid. A favorite toy, a familiar place, a silly photo β bring it in and make it part of the creative session. π·π¨
Coloring tools matter, but kids also need a little nonsense. Color This mixes simple pens with playful extras like glitter, so a dinosaur can absolutely end up sparkling. β¨π¦π¨
You set the daily limit.
And a bedtime cut-off. No autoplay, nothing pulling for one more minute.

Photo import is one of my favorite parts of Color This. The built-in worlds are there when you want them, but familiar photos can become part of the creative session too. π·π¨
