👋🦦 Welcome the newest member of the Elakha Alliance raft -> Avery Calhoun, our new Central Coast Community Coordinator.

Avery is bringing her #research background and passion for #scicomm together to support #kelpforest restoration, community engagement, and the return of #seaotters to #Oregon.

#Kelp anchors itself to rocky surfaces using a structure called a holdfast, seen here. This spaghetti-like network has one very important job: securing the kelp to the seafloor and holding it “fast” through all but the most turbulent conditions.
