@kmpeng.bsky.social👣 Protecting a landscape this large takes people on the ground.
Patrols and monitoring help safeguard KMP's forests and biodiversity, combining local knowledge with long-term conservation.
@kmpeng.bsky.social🌍 Peatlands are extraordinary natural carbon stores.
Protecting KMP's peat swamp landscape helps keep carbon locked below ground while safeguarding forests and wildlife above it.
@kmpeng.bsky.social🌱 Sustainable agriculture can support people and forests.
KMP works with communities to encourage approaches to farming that strengthen livelihoods while reducing pressure on surrounding ecosystems.
@kmpeng.bsky.social🔎 Understanding nature is essential to protecting it.
Research and long-term monitoring build knowledge of KMP's forests, wildlife and carbon-rich peatlands, helping support evidence-led conservation.
@kmpeng.bsky.social📚 Education creates opportunities that can last for generations.
KMP supports learning initiatives within surrounding communities as part of a wider commitment to long-term social development.
@kmpeng.bsky.social🌐 Climate action is connected to much more than carbon.
KMP contributes to all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, connecting climate, biodiversity, livelihoods, health and education.
@kmpeng.bsky.social🔬 Science underpins effective conservation.
KMP combines remote sensing with ground-based monitoring to measure carbon, biodiversity and social performance, helping inform long-term project management.
@kmpeng.bsky.social📷 Understanding wildlife is essential to protecting it.
Camera traps help KMP monitor biodiversity across the landscape, building a clearer picture of the species that depend on these forests.
@kmpeng.bsky.social🤝 Healthy forests and livelihoods can go hand in hand.
KMP works alongside communities to support sustainable economic opportunities, helping people and nature thrive together.
@kmpeng.bsky.social🐾 KMP's peat swamp forests provide vital habitat for wildlife, including the Sunda pangolin, proboscis monkey and Bornean orangutan.
Protecting their habitat is central to long conservation.
@kmpeng.bsky.social🌿 Protecting a landscape at scale.
KMP protects and restores 157,875 hectares of tropical peatland forest in Central Kalimantan, bringing climate, community and biodiversity together through long-term conservation.
@kmpeng.bsky.social🌱 What makes peatlands so important?
The real story at Katingan Mentaya isn't above ground, it's below it. Over 90% of this forest's carbon is stored underground, in peat that's been building up for thousands of years.
@kmpeng.bsky.social🌿 Climate. Community. Biodiversity.
At KMP, these three pillars come together through protecting carbon-rich peatlands, restoring forests, supporting communities and conserving threatened wildlife.
