I have a sketch of Henry David Thoreau on my wall. Beneath is a ceramic purple owl a friend gave me. I am up at 2:30 a.m. because cats and poetry will not let me sleep. This is the advice I give myself when I forget who I am. #KatherinesCoffeehouse #poetry
I hike differently now that I'm older.

Several years ago, my collection of short pieces, Late April, arrived head first into the world. I see how my writing has progressed since then. I also see how my work has been soaked in the complexity of motherhood. My WIP is as well.
On Labor Day, I was thinking of the working poor and how I grew up. Not strictly biographical, but I really did plunk myself under the blue spruce at the side of our yard, got stuck by dry needles, and played Harriet the Spy.
