GOOD DAY, dear ones 👋 🤗 🥰

Chilling with my daughter, no matter which one, is better ..... 😍 🤩 😇

The little one at Halemaʻumaʻu has finished its recovery phase and is happily spraying lava and letting it flow ....

Good morning, my dears 👋 🤗 🥰

The little one here is already building his own crater early ... let's see if this is just teenage behavior or if he's becoming more mature 😂

Have a great weekend - today I'm getting vaccinated twice and will see how my arms move afterwards 🤩

Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park temporarily closed Halemaʻumaʻu Trail & part of Byron Ledge Trail at 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, due to continued inflation and increased seismicity at the summit of #Kīlauea volcano. The trail closure is a total of 1.3 miles.

🌋What is #Kīlauea up to? #USGS #HVO reports October 9that that north & south vent spattered overnight with strong glow visible. The summit remains highly pressurized and we could get more lava fountains, magma intrusions or an eruption in a different location at the summit in the coming days/weeks.

What you can see here on the tiltmeter is the M 7.7 and aftershocks in Panama - ONLY if there are enough eruption-capable gases in Halemaʻumaʻu will an eruption occur ..........

HAWAIIAN VOLCANO OBSERVATORY DAILY UPDATE
U.S. Geological Survey
Friday, October 9, 2026, 8:53 AM HST (Friday, October 9, 2026, 18:53 UTC)

KILAUEA (VNUM #332010)
19°25'16" N 155°17'13" W, Summit Elevation 4091 ft (1247 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: WATCH
Current Aviation Color Code: ORANGE

Summary: Kīlauea summit north and south vent erupted minor spatter overnight. Kīlauea summit is at a high level of pressurization. Fountaining, intrusions, or an eruption in a new location within the summit region could occur in the coming days to weeks.

See these notices issued October 7:

October 7 Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Status Report summarizing recent intrusive activity and implications: https://volcanoes.usgs.gov/hans-public/notice/DOI-USGS-HVO-2026-10-08T01:00:28+00:00
October 7 Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park News Release announcing closures related to recent activity: https://www.nps.gov/havo/learn/news/20261007-nr-trail-closures.htm
Summit Observations:

Both the north and south vents in Halemaʻumaʻu showed strong glow and flames in overnight webcam imagery, with minor amounts of spatter erupted by both vents. Robust plumes of volcanic gas emanate from both vents in day-time webcam views.

In the past 24 hours, there were 7 shallow earthquakes located across the summit region of Kīlauea. The Uēkahuna tiltmeter (UWD) recorded no appreciable change in tilt over the past day. GPS stations on opposite sides of Halemaʻumaʻu (CRIM and UWEV) show a small increase in length since the end of September.

During inter-episode pauses, the sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission rate from the summit typically varies between 1,000 and 5,000 tonnes per day. Winds are currently forecast from the northeast.

Rift Zone Observations:

Rates of seismicity and ground deformation remain low in the East Rift Zone and Southwest Rift Zone.

Good morning, dear ones 👋 🤗 🥰

The Mid-Atlantic Ridge in and around Iceland is calming down again, there's nothing going on on Etna either, that's where the SE crater is making the water clouds today. And in Hawaii ? The weather god hides everything in water vapor ...

Two things catch my eye – the south crater seems to have gotten larger in diameter and therefore brighter ( wall collapses cause stuff like that ) and it's venting like crazy since yesterday, enveloping the north crater.

Dear ones, I say good night 🤗 🥰 👋 👋

Kīlauea is calm - if that should change, experts there say, the spectacle will take place within the caldera .... there are no signs of activity outside 😀

Nothing is visibly happening - ever since the update, the lava pattern at the N crater base has stayed the same ... absolutely nothing is happening ... and that raises questions – just as a puzzle, and someday the volcano goddess Pele will answer 😉😁

Kīlauea summit seismicity has increased. A swarm of small earthquakes occurred beneath the vent area between 2-3 PM. Summit tilt accelerated ~ 2:30 PM with inflation centered near the vents

The "Kīlauea Problem"

I’ve been thinking about the current situation at Halemaʻumaʻu and tried to explain how I think things look there. But I’m not an expert on site ….

All USGS HVO www.usgs.gov/volcanoes/ki... ff.

The "Kīlauea Problem"

There was the deep caldera floor, onto which liquid lava flowed whenever there was an overflow. It still does. This "layered floor" has risen - but so have the actual eruption craters ... ADD to that a tephra mound that kept growing larger and higher ( tephra is the general name given to anything thrown into the air during a volcanic eruption; it can range from individual ash particles all the way to volcanic bombs ).

This soft stuff ( SORRY 😉😁 ) can be liquefied again by fresh lava and, above all, is easily pushed aside ... this creates something like a cavern into which fresh lava can flow - a hidden lake has formed.

At the beginning, we had a conduit boring through solid rock - let's say with a diameter of 20 m - and now we have a surface area of, say, 100 m. The pressure buildup for a large fountain is completely different NOW .... The surface area for the eruptible gases is also different .....

An overfull lake overflowing is one thing; a massive fountain is something else entirely ... no one knows what it actually looks like beneath the surface, and models cannot calculate it either ...
@hawaiipacificparks.bsky.socialSep 30, 2026, 8:10 AM

Low-level, precursory lava activity continued at the summit of #Kīlauea over the past day.
Small lava overflows have been occurring from both north & south vents within Halemaʻumaʻu. Scientists continue to say it is not possible to forecast the onset of episode 55 fountains or if they will occur.

Image from USGS webcam shows lava flowing from the north vent within Halemaʻumaʻu at the summit of Kīlauea volcano on Monday.

Good morning, dear ones 👋 🤗 🥰

A few impressions of the ACTIVITIES of Halemaʻumaʻu and a photo analysis from me – the southern crater has split, it's double and very active … more than the northern crater, and in the western crater it's glowing and gases are flaring off …

There’s not much to say about Halemaʻumaʻu at the moment – there are sometimes short overflows that are apparently pretty cool ( they come out with some crust from the cone ) and very brief in time and lava tongue…. but the cone seems to be growing
