@liamomaraiv.bsky.social#JoeHill was born #JoelEmmanuelHägglund in Gävle, #Sweden, on #ThisDayInHistory in 1879. On migrating to the US in 1902 he became a songwriter for the #IndustrialWorkersOfTheWorld, penning many of the #IWW's most famous revolutionary #union songs. He was martyred by Utah in 1915.

They lined up, spoke, got arrested, filled the gaols, and got the laws changed. #PeoplePower works.

In 1918 on #ThisDayInHistory the #IWW was outlawed in Canada. Their crime? Opposition to the #FirstWorldWar and the killing fields to which the #WorkingClass were shipped to die.

Because he was a member of #IWW, i.e. a leftist, the US government sought no justice. In fact, records later declassified showed the US gov. backed the killing.
