I added the backup disk via the backup machine's IP and via its .local (mDNS) name and let it figure itself out overnight. It kinda did, and is now working on an ‘initial' backup. <sigh>

And it all worked yesterday. <sigh>
@grumpybozo.toad.social.ap.brid.gyNo, it is NOT OK that Settings.app can’t stay open for more than an hour in the Network pane without causing a quartet of processes to quietly eat all of 24 cores.
