A towering, weathered metal automaton bends toward a barefoot person standing in a field of dry golden plants. The vertical composition places the person near the lower center, while the machine fills most of the upper and right portions of the image. Seen largely from behind, the person wears a blue-gray cloth wrapped around their head, a loose dark indigo tunic with tan geometric embroidery down the back and around the sleeves, and a pale knee-length garment underneath. Their head tilts upward toward the machine. One raised hand rests around a thick metal finger extending from its enormous lowered hand. A broad bundle of slender stalks with round ocher seed heads fans outward behind the person toward the left.
The automaton has massive rounded shoulder plates, a small recessed head, and a bulky torso assembled from overlapping metal panels. Its brown-gray surfaces are heavily pitted, scratched, and corroded. Exposed cables, springs, circular joints, and dangling strips interrupt the armor. Long, uneven spikes rise from its upper back against the nearly white sky. Its articulated hand hangs beside the person, with elongated mechanical fingers reaching toward the plants below.
Hazy earthen buildings with irregular towers and pointed parapets stretch across the left background. Warm cream light softens their outlines, while sharper foreground details reveal cracked soil, scattered stems, and the person's bare feet. The enormous difference in scale gives the small gesture of contact a quiet tenderness.
