Today's column on the #IrishTimes by #JustineMcCarthy is an exceptionally good overview of the context of the #Drumcree dispute between the #OrangeOrder and the residents of the #GarvaghyRoad.

McCarthy argues that only an all-Ireland republic can end this […]

The image one paragraph of black, serifed text 9n a whote background. It is a screenshot of part of a column by Justine McCarthy, published in The Irish Times on Friday 2nd =October 2026:

Loyalist chauvinism did not start last Sunday or in Drumcree in 1995 or with the Troubles in 1969 or in 1920 with partition and the establishment of a sectarian Northern state. It is centuries old. The first Orange parade in Drumcree took place in July 1795, instigated by a Protestant minister whose sermon “so worked up the minds of his audience [they] gave full scope to their anti-papistical zeal” on their way home from church. Thus recorded historian Francis Plowden. In History of Ireland, published in 1809, he described the ensuing mob “falling upon every Catholic they met, beating and bruising them without provocation or distinction, breaking the doors and windows of their houses, and actually murdering two unoffending Catholics in a bog”.

This #IrishTimes poll sets a record for the most blatantly partisan and mendacious framing I have ever seen in any #OpinionPoll anywhere about anything. 😡

Despite the bias, 68 per cent favour the current model of neutrality over the loaded alternative option […]

I saw the title on the home page of the #IrishTimes and didn't even have to zoom in on the byline to know whose take this would be.
