Something that will not happen again. April 2021 and a #SSL #NICTD South Shore line #interurban train at the Michigan City IN. Station boarding passengers in the middle of the street. The NICTD has begun double tracking the line and building a high level platform here and eliminating street running

#KansasCity folks be like "oh we can't have a good light rail system, we're not *that* big!" and then they just forget about the past.

A 1924 map of interurban (light rail, but for both freight and passengers) service around Kansas City. There's 8 lines and easily well over 100 stations stretching from St. Joseph, MO to Olathe, KS, and Fort Leavenworth, KS to the start of the Oregon Trail in Independence, MO, and from Excelsior Springs, MO to Lawrence, KS.

In Northfield,IL, the #NorthShoreLine ROW is still visible at Willow & Happ/Central roads. The #Interurban died on Jan. 21, 1963. Its SB main was taken over by the Chicago & NorthWestern (later @UnionPacific) because it was much better than CNW's own, parallel track.
