Books that fold time into loops and second chances: Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel, Life After Life by Kate Atkinson, and The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North. Three books, one question: what would you do with another chance? ⏳

Stacey D'Erasmo teaches that intimacy lives in the space between people, not the moment they touch. It's the pause before an answer, the wall two people talk through, the thing left unsaid. Leave the gap. What isn't said is what the reader feels hardest. 🌸

Dramatic irony: the reader knows what the character doesn't. The tension isn't in the reveal, it's in the wait. Once we see the cliff they can't, every ordinary moment turns unbearable. It's the opposite of a twist, and the dread does all the work. πŸš‚ πŸ‘€ πŸ“–

A frame narrative is a story wrapped inside another. But the frame isn't just a container, it's a lens. It puts a narrator between you and the events, shaping how much you trust them and whose truth you're getting. Use it on purpose. 🏯

Exquisite Corpse Vol. 5: What the Tide Left Behind

Prompt: β€œThe will left everything to someone no one in the family had ever met.” 🧐

4 writers built this blind, each only seeing the line right before theirs. Every twist here came from someone just taking their turn. #exquisitecorpse #inkbreaker

Old saying,"Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist". The catch: breaking a rule and breaking it well aren't the same. A fragment from a pro reads as style. From a beginner, as an error. The difference is whether the reader feels you meant it. 🚭

There's a name for this: the objective correlative (T.S. Eliot, 1919). Every emotion has a formula, a set of objects that produces it. Don't write "grief." Write the untouched plate, the coat still by the door. The feeling arrives on its own. 🌾
